Title: She Smiles

Pairing: It was never written to have any pairings in it, but if you have to have some, implied Leon/Kairi, and some Sora/Kairi and Riku/Kairi.

Rating: PG, because Leon has a sword! Oh noes!!!1
Summary: "Sometimes people just need someone to talk to."
Notes: Originally written for _overthefantasy, but then I decided not to use it, since my claim was Sora/Kairi, and this has scarce to none Sora/Kairi in it. XDDD

Splash! The narrow stone sank to the floor of the miniature lake. Kairi sighed in disappointment. She picked up another rock off the floor, examined it, then threw it at the water. This stone, too, fell to the bottom. With another sigh, Kairi surveyed the ground around her.

Most of the rocks were too large, but there were some that were—there! She snatched it up eagerly. “Perfect!” she exclaimed after a moment. The 14-year-old girl took a deep breath, then threw the rock at the water, angling her hand so that the rock was almost parallel with the waterline.

It skipped once, twice, three times before it lost momentum. Kairi cheered in triumph, clapping her hands happily.

“Ahem,” a voice said from behind her, bringing her celebration to a close.

Kairi turned around, embarrassed, and saw a brown-haired man with a giant sword slung over his shoulder standing there. “Oh, Leon!” she said, surprised. “What are you doing here?”

He stepped forward a few steps, then stopped. “This,” he said, gesturing around, “is where I come to train.” His gaze wandered about the cavern, then fixed itself on her. They were in the Underground Cavern.

“O-oh,” she said quietly. Kairi hadn’t known that anyone actually came down here anymore. “I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be,” the older man said emotionless. “You didn’t do anything wrong.”

Surprised, Kairi was silent for a moment, then smiled. She turned around and grabbed another stone. “You know…,” she began, “Sora and Riku once tried to teach me to skip stones. It was a long time ago, but for some reason, I still remember it, like it was yesterday.” Leon said nothing, just watched her silently.

She threw the stone at the water. It skipped five times this time, which delighted the thrower. “Five times; that’s the most I’ve ever skipped a stone.” A giggle. “Actually, I think it’s the first time I’ve ever skipped a stone.” Still, no response from her listener.

“When I see them again, I’ll tell them…,” she murmured, trailing off. “Ah! Why am I telling you all this?” Kairi turned around again to face Leon. “Sorry! This must be so boring for you!”

He said nothing for a moment, then Leon shook his head. “Not at all. Sometimes people just need someone to talk to. Besides, I’m more of a listener type myself.”

This produced another smile from the girl. “Thanks.”

Amazing, Leon thought. She’s lost her home, been separated from her friends, and nearly lost her life, but still, she smiles. Is it because she has nothing else to lose? Or is it that she has everything to gain?

“Well, I’d better go,” Kairi said, bringing Leon back to reality. “I just came down here because… I don’t know, actually. I just felt like skipping stones. Silly, isn’t it?” She laughed at herself. “Bye!”

The girl ran past Leon and onto the stone steps that led to the Magician’s house. She paused, looked back, and waved. Leon gave her a small wave back, and she grinned and ran up the remainder of the steps. He watched her go until she was out of sight.

Something about that girl… Something about her seems…no. It’s probably just my imagination. He left it at that, and began practicing. He swung his sword around skillfully, fatally wounding imaginary enemies.

Title: The Rarest Thing

Summary: She said they were rare. He said they were common.

“Oh, wow!” Kairi exclaimed, looking up at the sky in wonder. Shooting stars flew across the sky, leaving blazing trails in the atmosphere. “So this is what you wanted to show me!” She turned to her companion, a smile lighting up her face. “Thank you so much!”

Sora grinned and rubbed the back of his neck, something he did when he was embarrassed. “It was nothing. I just thought you’d like it.” ‘It’ was referring to the cosmic show that was playing out above them.

He sat down on the sand, and Kairi did, too. “How did you know there would be a shower tonight?” she asked him.

“Huh?” Sora was a bit surprised by this question. “Well… these showers happen every night, so I knew there’d be one.”

“Every night?!” Kairi exclaimed. “Where I come from…” She gazed up at the sky. “I can’t remember much, but I’m pretty sure that where I come from, shooting star showers were rare.” Her hand was resting on the sand, in the spot between where he sat and where she sat.

Sora reached across and grabbed her hand. Kairi gasped and turned to look at him. She couldn’t exactly tell in the scarce light, but it looked like the young boy’s face was bright red.

“I think,” Sora said, “that it’s rare to be able to sit here and watch this with you.”

Summary: He had never really noticed before.
Notes: My first time writing a Royai piece. I could have probably continued with it, but I had no real ideas past that point, so I decided to just cut it off there. XD;;

Roy Mustang noticed it for the first time that day. It seemed like a normal day, and it was, but it was the first day he really noticed. After noticing, he couldn’t believe he had never noticed before. Beckoning with his hand, he waved Havoc over.

“What is it, sir?” Havoc asked as he walked over to Roy, a hint of annoyance in his voice. Roy didn’t even look over at him, his eyes still fixed on their target.

After a moment of Havoc giving Roy strange looks, the colonel said absently, “Lt. Hawkeye sure is beautiful, isn’t she?”

Havoc stared at his superior officer before saying in disbelief, “You haven’t noticed?” Roy Mustang was a ladies man, and was not one to let a woman’s beauty go unnoticed.

“Huh?” Havoc’s answer surprised Roy, and for a second, he looked over at Roy, before returning his gaze to Riza, who had been the subject of his attention for several minutes now. Was it really that obvious? he thought to himself. Am I really the only one who didn’t notice?

Hawkeye had always seemed “genderless” to him. She was his co-worker and a captain in the military, and he had thought of her as just that.

But on that day, for the first time in his lifetime, Roy Mustang noticed Riza Hawkeye’s femininity.

And forgive me, it's been a LONG time since I've watched that first episode, so I just made some of it up as I went. I wasn't on the Internet went I wrote this. ^^;;;;;
And sorry that it kinda drags on in the flashback part... I just got too carried away writing, I guess. ^^;;;;
Word Count: Whomahgod... This is the longest fic I've written in a long time. 832 words (according to MS Word), wh00t! 8D;;

Title: Healing Spirit

Theme: 00- Cure for 02- Antidote

Summary: Kairi is ill with a disease, and the villagers don't have the medicine to treat her.
Notes: This was originally written for Antidote, but when I finished I realized it wasn't very antidote-ish. So I looked in the bonus themes, and decided to use this for Cure. XD The "disease" she has in unknown, even to me. XDDD;; I based it off of my experience when I had scarlet fever, so let's just say she has that. 8D XD;;

“She needs a doctor!”

“Hurry!”

“Someone, quick!”

“What can we do?”

A young-looking girl with short brown hair stood in the doorway of the small house, one hand on the doorframe. She clutched her jump rope tight in the other, her blue bracelet moving around on her shaking arm. Her eyes filled with fear, she watched the scene in front of her.

Adults clustered around the bed, each one panicking and yelling and creating a lot of noise that wasn’t helping the girl lying underneath the blankets. They kept on mentioning doctors, but everyone knew that there wasn’t a doctor on any of the islands, and no one had ever gone beyond Destiny Islands and returned.

“We have to do something!” one woman spoke up. “We don’t have a doctor, and we can’t get one. So enough about doctors! Whining about it won’t make one magically appear. We have to help this girl ourselves.” She gestured to the unconscious red-haired girl lying in the bed.

“Now: you! Get a basin and fill it with water. Bring a cloth, too. You! Go and make a broth. Not soup, just the broth.” She continued like this, pointing to each person present and telling them to do things, which they quickly rushed off to do.

One by one, every person ran past the girl in the doorway, until only the woman was left. She cast a worried glance at the sleeping girl in the bed, then walked away as well. Halfway out the door, she stopped, and put a hand on the brown-haired girl’s shoulder. “Come on, Selphie,” the woman murmured. “Kairi will be fine, I promise.”

Selphie turned to the woman, her green eyes wide. “Are you sure?” she said in a small voice. The woman nodded, and the teenager reluctantly followed her out the door, glancing back one last time at her friend.

Kairi had fallen ill just two days ago. She and Selphie had been sitting on the dock, chatting and watching Wakka and Tidus fight on the beach. Selphie had said that Wakka’s taunts seemed to be getting to Tidus, and Kairi had agreed and laughed. There was a moment of silence, and then Kairi had uttered a little moan.

“What’s wrong?!” Selphie had asked worriedly, moving closer.

Her friend was clutching her head in pain. “The world…,” Kairi groaned softly. “The world… is… spinning… my head hurts… ohh…” She had mumbled something, and collapsed on the dock. Selphie called Wakka and Tidus over, and the three friends discovered that Kairi had a high fever. They had rowed, with Kairi, back over to the Village Island, and immediately told the mayor.

No one knew what Kairi had, but some people with varied knowledge of illnesses had been able to confirm that it was a dangerous disease: one that might take the girl’s life if she wasn’t cured. Unfortunately, they couldn’t say what the needed medicine was.

Shortly after Selphie and the woman had left, Kairi woke up. The ceiling was spinning, and it made her eyes hurt, so she shut them. But she could not find refuge in that; her eyes kept hurting, her head kept hurting, so badly she wanted to just go back to sleep.

“Kairi… you okay?”

That voice! Even in her hazy state of mind, Kairi could still identify that voice. She thought of him every day, the owner of the voice. “So…ra?” she said softly, her throat dry and sore.

“That’s right. Hey, you don’t look to good… Kairi, you’ve got to beat this thing, got it? I’m gonna come back soon, I promise, and there’s no reason to be here, on the islands, or anywhere, if you’re not in this world.”

“Tha… that’s right… I’m waiting… for you…,” Kairi mumbled. She wanted to open her eyes, she wanted to see him. Gradually, her eyelids lifted, and there he was. Sora. Standing at the end of her bed, Sora looked just the same as when she had last seen him. He was worried, she could tell, but still wore a faint smile.

He asked, “So you won’t let this disease beat you?”

“Never,” she murmured.

Sora reached out his hand, and Kairi weakly lifted hers up. Her hand faltered, but Sora’s strong grip grasped it, holding her hand up. He gently squeezed her hand, and she smiled. Then everything went black.

“Kairi… you okay?”

Is that Sora…? Kairi wondered, the thought piercing through her clouded mind. Have I been asleep? What happened to Sora? She felt something wet on her forehead, a damp and cold something. It felt like more blankets had been put on top of her, and an extra pillow added behind her head.

“Kairi?” the speaker asked again.

No, that’s not Sora, Kairi realized. “S… Selphie…?”

“That’s right!” Kairi slowly opened her eyes, and saw her friend standing beside the bed, looking relieved. “I’m so glad you’re okay, Kairi.” Selphie said.

“Huh…” Kairi began, puzzled.

A woman stepped up behind Selphie. “You were very ill,” she explained. “You had an awful fever, and no one knew how to bring it down. We were worried you would… well… die.” She spoke this last word softly, then continued. “Everyone rushed off to do something to help, but when we came back, we found that your fever had gone down considerably.

“You’re still a bit sick, mind you, so you’ll have to stay in bed a few days. But we can get you back to good health, so don’t worry. Strange, though, how you just suddenly got cured.” The woman looked down at Kairi as if she might know.

Selphie chose this time to speak up. “Um… after everybody left, I was coming back to check on Kairi, and when I peeked in the door, there was green everywhere.”

The woman glanced disbelievingly at Selphie. “Green?!”

“Yeah,” the teenage girl continued. “There were green lights all over, and I could hear bells, soft and sweet, ringing faintly. It was beautiful. And it seemed to focus around Kairi.”

The other people in the room (for there were others there) stared at Selphie. The woman looked down on the girl, but could only find truth written on Selphie’s face. The woman sighed, and turned away, saying, “Maybe you’ve got this fever, too.” The others took that to mean the subject was dismissed, and went on with what they had been doing.

Selphie looked a bit annoyed at not being believed by anyone, but Kairi believed her. Sora…, she thought, looking away. … Thank you.
